Tips for Camping in the Rain!

Hi Campers!

Welcome back to my little blog!
Today I'm sharing my top tips for camping in the rain. To be honest it's not that fun especially with kids but hopefully this advice will help if you go camping and it does rain.

  1. When the grounds quite moist it's a good idea to put an extra peg or two into the ground to make sure your tent's a tad more secure. When we went on our latest camping trip to Rendlesham Forest Camping we found that the rain turned the ground quite crumbly and where we pegged the tent the pegs where moving inwards! Another peg in the ground soon sorted that.
  2. Go for a walk in a nearby woods. When we get stuck in the tent my little one (and big one!) tend to get quite restless. As long as we get togged up in waterproofs and wellies and walk somewhere more sheltered like in a wood we stay warm and cosy.
  3. Take an airer. I know this sounds like a silly idea and I laughed myself when I saw people with washing lines etc but to dry things off this really helps.
  4. Put windbreaks up. On some sites you do have to pay extra money for windbreaks but they're brillant for sheltering you a bit from the rain. We put two up in order to create a garden-like area so it gives a bit of privacy too.
  5. Pack spare towels for drying off when you come in from the rain. Towels are very versatile so I would advise taking more than the bare minimum for showers etc.
  6. When it rains hard quite often the grass turns muddy so to avoid bringing all the dirt and mud into the tent somewhere to stand to take shoes off is quite helpful. We use kids foam giant jigsaw mats (click here if you don't know what I mean) just outside the door of the tent so we have somewhere to stand and take our boots off.

Forest Camping!

Hi Campers!

Welcome back to my little blog!
We've just spent a few nights camping in Rendlesham Forest. Apart from putting the tent up in torrential rain (!!!) and me coming down with a terrible migraine on the second night - I ended up calling in the cavalry (my mum) - and taking to my sleeping bag we did manage to have a lovely time. The location of the campsite was ideal as the forest with it's walks and epic play area was only a couple of minutes walk away. Surrounded by trees there was an abundance of wildlife at night and in the day. The sky did not disappoint either with its twinkling stars at night which added to the cosy atmosphere on camp. Below are a few snaps from our trip!

We braved the UFO trail and is definitely a must! It was rather eerie but did not help that we walked it at dusk but it really added to the atmosphere. By the end of the night even myself a non-believer doubted my previous beliefs and now truly think this did happen.

 Me and Charley

 My beautiful girls

We were all fighting over the zip wire so sorry for the blurry shot but Charley was in mid-zip!!

A little imp we found, haha!

Laughing my head off - though I can't remember what at!

Just after a shower!

Our visit to the Suffolk Punch Trust

We visited the Suffolk Punch Trust though you see more horses driving through the countryside than here, a little disappointed and definitely not somewhere for kids.

We did a spot of retail therapy around Woodbridge but if you go take your credit card! There were many lovely boutiques and for me such a treat going to the Georgian Coffee House which sold gluten  and dairy free meals. I bribed Charley around the shops with the promise to go to Woodbridge Library which worked out quite well as Bobo forgot her book so we had to share one!!

We plan on going back next year to this forest gem!!

Packed to the max!!!

Hi Campers!

Welcome back to my little blog!
Tomorrow we're off on our travels again, this time we're spending 3 nights in a forest NOT wild camping though. We are staying in a campsite in a forest in East Anglia.

Lily's been busy baking with Charley - peanut butter biscuits, yum! It's becoming quite the tradition that before our camping trips they bake a batch of them. This time however our tasty treats are charred around the edges, to be honest we simply forgot they were cooking :) I've also been busy as you can see below, the car is packed to the max!

The only thing left to do now is to decide what colour I'm going to paint my toenails!!
We're 3 very excited girls but this time without the stress that we're virgin campers :)

Happy Camping!

Actually that's a total lie because I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did the girls. I decided that for the very first time I would take my mum so the woman who looks vaguely like me but 30 years older is her, haha!!

Well, hi there!!

Hi campers!

Welcome to my little blog! I greet all those who are campers, experienced campers or virgin campers like me. I decided to write my first post as I am going camping in 3 days, let the countdown begin! I thought it'd be a good idea if you got to know me a bit first.

Meet the gang :)

These are my girls, the toddler is Charley. She's 2 years old and a total terror! Then there's my lovely Lily, she's 14 and the one whose convinced me to lose my camping virginity. Eeek!!

Now like I said I'm going camping in 3 days to a cute little place in Norfolk and I will make sure I post all of our fails and victories from now and onwards :)

Happy Camping!
